Choosing the Right Type of Attic Insulation
Insulation Panama City is one of the most effective ways to reduce energy costs. It also helps to create more consistent temperatures throughout the house and improves soundproofing. However, before you start laying insulation, be sure to take care of any other issues in the attic before putting down a new layer. You don’t want to lay new insulation over rodents, exposed electrical wires, mold and more.
Choosing the Right Type of Insulation
There are several different types of insulation available, and each has its own benefits and drawbacks. The most common type of insulation is fiberglass batts. These are generally available in various thicknesses, widths and with or without paper facing. They are installed with a blower and work best in attics with standard joist spacing, few obstacles to work around, and adequate headroom.
Another option is loose-fill cellulose or rockwool. This type of insulation is made from recycled materials and is blown into place with a machine designed for the purpose. It can be very effective in smaller attic spaces but does require a vapor barrier to protect against moisture.
Spray foam is another viable option. It is made of two chemicals that react and expand to create a foam that fills every gap and crevice, sealing leaks and gaps. It has the highest R-value of any insulation material, but it is more labor intensive and should only be installed by a professional.
