WBSO Subsidy
Developing innovative technologies, production processes and software is expensive. The WBSO voor R&D makes it possible to lower these costs. The subsidy is based on a deduction from payroll taxes and covers R&D activities related to product development, process development (production techniques), software development and technical scientific research. In general, only Dutch companies are eligible. You can find more information on the official conditions of the WBSO on the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland, RVO).
How to Optimize Your WBSO Application for Maximum Benefits
The WBSO is available for BVs and NVs and also for zzzp’ers and start-ups. You can choose from 2 methods in order to claim the WBSO: a fixed amount per project or an amount based on actual costs and expenses. In the latter case, you have to keep accurate administration on the hours incurred. This requires the use of a WBSO software specialist.
After you’ve submitted your application, it will be assessed by the RVO. In some cases, the RVO will contact you or your intermediary in order to ask questions. In the meantime, you should keep detailed records on the R&D activities in progress. These must include the nature, content and progress of your projects. In addition, you must be able to explain how you reached your results. The RVO may announce a control visit, during which the entire administration of your projects will be inspected. This is possible for current and closed projects, up to 7 years old.
